From my sketchbook

Last week, I posted the first little bit of “tidbits” from my sketchbook. There is so much brainstorming, research and sketching that goes into custom design, I really want to share it all with you. Granted, I don’t want to give it all away, but a sneak peek shall we say, into current projects. Then, as they are printed and mailed off, I will show the final result!
These tidbits are from a save the date i am working on for a couple who is having bi-coastal weddings. So, the trick was to keep them looking similar but each has its own set of information. Most of the same elements will be used, as well as the color scheme too. It really was a ton of fun to work on. I can’t wait to share the finished results of this one! They are pretty sassy looking. {But the bride has to see them first}.
A deep impression

I think you all know by now how much I adore letterpress. I love all the variations in print, the varying impression depending upon the paper you use, and the challenge it brings with other paper.
When Luke from Clark + Walker came to me to use his existing logo, but to incorporate it into a business card, i was thrilled. The logo-type called for something a bit unique. I wanted an embossed (the impression rising off the surface of the paper) look on one side, but a debossed (the impression sinking into the paper) look on the other. Rather than printing 2 different methods and duplexing the cards together, which can get pretty expensive, we had the pressman run the cards twice. This left the name, email and phone with a lighter impression than the logo-type. So, once the card was pressed again, it was pressed extra hard so that only the business name looks embossed on the backside. It has an amazing texture and look to it!
The second image shows that texture a teeny bit, but i can’t even pretend to shoot photos as well as Luke, so i hope you get the idea.

Good morning!
I am posting something new today! These are tidbits of concepts from my sketchbook. One of my favorite parts of custom design is this phase. Meeting with clients to really learn about who they are, what their event is about and the overall feel of the day! My head usually races and the creative wheels instantly start turning during our meetings and thereafter. Sketching not only helps put my thoughts on paper, but it is what makes each project unique. This is also one of the main differences between custom design and simply selecting something already designed from a catalog or book. This is the stage where the creativity really comes out and i sometimes, even give my clients a sneak peek! {sometimes}
These are two projects in the works. I will be more than excited to reveal them after they are complete, but in the meantime, enjoy! My thoughts are to also share this stage of my new web site design, the ready to order line and the children & baby lines. What do you think?

Happy Friday! I hope you all have a marvelous day.
As I am reorganizing the studio, and getting ready to start work on the new website, when i realized i had never posted some designs. I wanted to share, since they are some of my favorites! So you will be seeing some new designs, some of which are the inspiration behind the new ‘ready to order’ line.
This one i designed for Allison and Jeff. They love, love, love wine. They got engaged at a winery, so we decided to incorporate that into their invitations. Letterpressed onto ecru paper, I used a wine bottle label as my main piece of inspiration. Enjoy!

Good {snowy} morning for anyone that is experiencing this tremendous storm! I have to say, there is something pretty about sitting in my studio, looking out the window and enjoying it while it falls. Driving in it is another story though. I hope everyone got safely to their destination this morning if you were out and about.
I also wanted to announce that we are looking for a new intern for the spring! We hosted Nicole last semester and she was just a joy to have here at the studio. She has since left to study in London this coming semester. So, if you are someone you know might be interested, send them my way! Email the studio if interested.
