Sail your ship
Happy Monday my friends!
I hope your weekend was amazing and fun-filled! I had a great time with my family and of course, it just never lasts long enough. I also spent some time thinking about the fun changes for The Pink Orange, projects to come, new designs, and moving forward with exciting times as the studio continues to get busier. At the same time it is scary, the feeling evokes great energy and inspiration! My friend Katie recently sent me a link Non-Society and included were some extremely inspirational words. I normally don’t include posts like this, but I wanted to share with you all, and if you feel like reading (it is long). But.. i do hope it helps you make a decision you might have been holding back on or take your business or life to the next level!
Comfort. Security. Stability. Familiar. We all want our lives to have these things, and yet, we also want to accomplish great things, be extraordinary, experience new and wonderful things. Sometimes we nearly succeed in convincing ourselves that we can have much, but risk little. This simply is not true. Any worthwhile endeavor, any good thing worth the effort it takes to obtain it will have attached to it an element of risk. Finding your true love is amazing, life changing and euphoric yet there is the risk of being hurt or rejected. Discovering your purpose in life is indescribably fulfilling, yet there is the risk of being misunderstood or even unappreciated.
Sail Your Ship!
Using the analogy contained in the quote at the beginning of this article, your life is like a ship. You can anchor your life in the harbor, in the familiar surroundings you’ve grown accustomed to, and never risk a change of any kind. This is safe, right? The problem is that this is not what the ship (your life) was built for! The ship (your life) was designed to move, to experience new surroundings, arrive at new destinations and all the while making the journey an adventure! If a ship never leaves the harbor it will eventually decay to the point of becoming useless because it wasn’t designed to be stagnant. It was designed to sail out of the harbor, bravely entering the vastness of the open sea and all of its possibilities. The same is true of your life and mine.
It’s so easy to get “caught up” in life. The bills, the kids, the job, the house, and somewhere, way down at the bottom of our to-do list, we pencil in our dreams. You know what? No one ever gets around to doing the last thing on their to-do list!
Like No Other
If we are to be successful, fulfilled and truly happy we must leave the harbor. Each of us are unique and we each have something no one else does. We’re all human with the same basic needs, and heck, we probably even all share the same universal consciousness, but we are still unique! I am different than you and you are different than me! We each have our own viewpoint, interpretation, and thoughts about people and our world. I read something in a book recently that said that “the world needs what we have to offer. If it didn’t, we wouldn’t be here!” If we stay anchored in the harbor, how can we make a difference in the world?
“Do One Thing Every Day That Scares You” -Eleanor Roosevelt
Are there opportunities for you, right now, that perhaps you’ve been putting off or avoiding? Are there actions you could be taking that you know would set you on the path to success and fulfillment? Has fear of the unknown, failure or rejection kept you stationary? Has the effort required to sail your life into the sea of possibility kept you anchored in the harbor? This pretty much describes my life for the past several months, but no longer! I’ve hoisted anchor, my ship is moving toward the open sea. As I stand on the bow, the wind in my face and the salty spray fills the air around me, I am both wonderfully frightened and emboldened for what lies ahead. It is unknown and full of possibility. I embrace the adventure of the journey as much as I will embrace my destination.
I hope to see you out there…..

It’s the little things
Ilissa, the owner of Binx had sent me a link for the coolest book a long time ago. I had put it in the back of my head and in my favorites/shopping area of my bookmarks. I knew i would go back one day for it, but i tell myself constantly..”priorities Rebecca, priorities.” Ilissa knows of our adoption plans and so sweetly remembered how much i adored the book when she sent the link. I need it i told her. I mean, what designer wouldn’t want a book filled with fabulous typography!? And for a baby? A must have.
Yesterday my mailman dropped off the prettiest little package. Ooo-la-la! The wrapping was fun and puffy. I quickly tossed aside the junk and bills and opened up the book from Ilissa. I seriously had tears in my eyes. Her heartfelt note thanking me for her logo and my support of her new endeavor really meant the world to me. I really love what i do, and it is clients like Ilissa that i am so lucky to interact with on a daily basis that just make me so incredibly happy!
Look how fun this book is!
Fun with color!
Way back when… i mean way back when right after design school I found this amazing photo share website. Stock.xchng. It used to be a place where photographers of all levels could upload and share their photos. Other uses, like myself could download and use, free of charge. It has changed a bit since Getty purchased it, but still a useful site and still lots of free images from lots of great photographers from all over the world.
I love to browse through and look for fun images for our home or projects where expensive stock just isn’t in the numbers. I found this balloon image and just love it. The colors are so soft, and it makes me smile. Sort of makes me feel like a kid again. Then, i was thinking… what a great image to base a wedding around. Oh boy – here i go again. Planning another style wedding for us again. Dear lord I hope Christopher isn’t reading, he might start to hyperventilate.
I think if i got married again, I would want a short dress like this one! So here is the start of some colors and a dress style. See how it all comes together!

getting ready for spring
With the warm weather right around the corner here in Upstate NY, I find myself daydreaming about all the things that come along with nice weather. Spring and summer feel like they come and go with the blink of an eye. Here are some pretties to look at for a bit of inspiration.
When the plants start turning green and poking up through the brown grass…

a Valentine’s Day of a different color
Instead of traditional red and pink, why not burgundy and gold with a splash of champagne added in?
Invitation: The Pink Orange
Bouquet: Renaissance Floral
Dress: Priscilla of Boston
This invitation was designed for a bride for last Valentine’s Day in burgundy and gold. I loved the linen paper with the combination of engraving and offset print. The detail on the invite printed amazing in an ink with just a hint of metallic. So elegant and sophisticated!
Twinkle toes
Wow! I feel so normal this morning after being so sick last week. It feels great! I started to feel better over the weekend which was nice and so of course, we took down our tree and decorations. It is so sad and the house feels so undecorated now.
As i was putting away my loot, i came across my wedding shoes in my closet. It started to bring back all the wonderful memories of our day. However, there is a story that goes along with my shoes. I’m pretty tall (6’0″ to be exact) so finding the perfect shoe to go along with the perfect dress, the perfect veil and the perfect jewelry was such a chore for me. It almost took the “i love shoes” part out of my body. I didn’t want anything that would make me tower over Christopher, i wanted something dainty, i wanted something simple and i wanted something that wouldn’t necessarily sink into the ground since we were getting married outside. I finally found the most perfect shoes! I couldn’t wait to wear them, and i did. For about one hour. Yes whoever is reading…. one hour. See, it rained on our wedding day. It made for some really fun photos, but it rained. So by the time we made our way back to our venue after some early photography, the grounds were soaked and i didn’t want to ruin the “perfect” shoes. So… my entire bridal party went barefoot into the garden.
This is me and my father walking me down the stairs. Take notice of the bare feet.

:: sigh :: So i ended up changing shoes for the reception and my “perfect” shoes rest dormant in the box, in my closet. Every now and again, i’ll frolic around in them! But… it does make me wonder what i would do if i ever had the chance to re-plan our wedding. I loved every minute of it! Then i got to thinking how fun some of the photos i see are where the bride is totally untraditional with color and style. So i gathered some images to share, and for my own storage. ( you know… just incase Christopher would ever want a “redo” on a non rainy day)!

So there you have it! Some fun and fanciful shoes (and boots) for your wedding day.
